Green councillor Eleanor Laming comments in a letter to the Eastern Daily Press on the need for an overhaul of the planning system. Local people can make their views known on planning applications but they lack the power to change the system. The system favours the large private house builders who make significant profits for senior management and shareholders. They build houses that suit the developers and not the people who live locally or that benefits wildlife.
Without a change in planning policy we will not see the protection of green spaces and the provision of high-quality, affordable housing with decent, accessible public services.
