Cllr Jan Davis, Green Party cabinet member for environment on Broadland District Council, was interviewed on the BBC Radio Norfolk Breakfast Show on the issue of food waste collection. The government has mandated local waste collection authorities to implement a food waste collection service from the end of March 2026. However, government has not allocated sufficient funding for local authorities to sufficiently resource a food waste service. Many local authorities are up in arms about this and have appealed for adequate funding to be allocated.
Broadland District Council has already rolled out a district-wide food waste collection service. Jan explains the benefits of such a service along with the associated costs involved.
