Local Government Reorganisation

The government in Westminster has expressed its ambition to merge district and county councils to form unitary councils. Our Green District Councillors know the area and can represent the views of residents in their Wards.

If district councils are abolished and merged with the county council in some form, it is likely your elected representative will represent a larger geographical area than the current ward size.

This will mean a dilution of democratic representation at the local level. One elected individual will find it much harder to understand local concerns and represent constituents over a wider area.

Local government can be improved and made more efficient but pushing through the proposed major changes to local government without proper consultation with residents and elected members is undemocratic and disregards the views of voters.

In Broadland Green Party, we feel our views should be heard and taken into account in any proposed reorganisation for Norfolk local government.
