Green Party Parliamentary candidate, Cllr Jan Davis:

“I am honoured and proud to be selected as the Green Party candidate for the Broadland & Fakenham Parliamentary constituency in the next General Election.  Having lived in Broadland for 30 years I know the district well and appreciate the many and various challenges residents face on a day-to-day basis.

I am married with two grown up children.  My professional background is in public health engineering. During my varied career, I have worked for an engineering consultancy and as a self-employed private consultant for several years. Seeking satisfying and worthwhile challenges I applied my technical knowledge and ability to manage teams in overseas humanitarian aid work, mostly in Africa.  Later, as a local government officer, I gained experience and a good understanding of how councils operate at district and county level.

The critical situation we find ourselves in today due to the impacts of climate change, our degrading environment, and the cost of living and energy crisis, prompted me to stand in 2021 and win a seat as a Green Party councillor on Broadland District Council, along with my fellow councillor, Eleanor Laming.

They were the first Green Party seats to be won in Broadland and since then we have doubled our seats in a matter of a couple of years.  This clearly shows voters are looking for an alternative to the tired old politics of the traditional parties.  The dire situation we are in now is a direct result of failed policies that do not prioritise the health and wellbeing of ourselves and the planet.

We are at a critical period in time for the human race, our wildlife and our planet. Our current way of living is not sustainable.  It is vital we implement policies and programmes that not only prioritise our survival but transition to a new, healthier future by tackling climate change and the dramatic and tragic loss of biodiversity.

A healthy economy and jobs rely on a healthy environment.  Unlike the traditional parties, the Green Party has the drive, the passion, and the policies to make a difference.  That’s why I am excited to stand as the Green Party candidate to represent the views and concerns of all the constituents of Broadland & Fakenham.”
