The County Council elections take place on the 6th May. The Green Party is contesting at least 10 seats in Broadland alone and many more across the county. An article in the Eastern Daily Press (31/03/21) makes the point that only the Greens have the ambition to drive carbon reduction. It lists Green proposals to make the county carbon neutral by 2030. This can be achieved at the same time as creating new jobs through, for example, retrofitting homes to cut carbon emissions.
The article highlights the Green Party objection to the Norwich Western Link, the controversial £153m road which would connect the Northern Distributor Road to the A47.
Other pledges include the need to manage traffic around schools to reduce harmful pollution, the introduction of a universal basic income, the recycling of the county's waste rather than incineration (which is currently what happens to a lot of our recycled waste), and increased funding for social services support for drug and mental health issues.
Ben Price, standing for the Thorpe Hamlet seat at County Hall, said: "The council would be richer for the Greens being there. Whereas other parties tinker around the edges to varying degrees, climate change is at the front and centre of our policies."
