Norfolk devolution deal to be decided by just 10 Conservative councillors

An article on edp24 highlights how Norfolk's proposed devolution deal - which will introduce an elected 'mayor' - will be decided by just 10 Tory councillors. Devolution to the people?? Local democracy?? This process of deciding the deal is an example of what such devolution means - that power will be concentrated in the hands of even fewer elected representatives.

Green group leader at Norfolk County Council Ben Price said: "Taking the devolution process away from the wider council and placing in the hands of 10 people is typical of the way Conservatives want to run this county, with no accountability or dissenting voices.

"This is a bad deal for Norfolk and the environment, and lacks the financial clout to make significant improvements to the lives of its citizens."
